Hedgehog Cactus

This is the time of year when the intensely red Hedgehog Cactus (Echinocereus triglochidiatus) blooms, and a mass of them is a truly spectacular sight. It, of course, has that name because its spines resemble those of an actual hedgehog. Unfortunately, hedgehogs don’t live in any of the Americas, so in case you’re curious, I picked a cute one to show you.
